There is a very nice coffee/espresso shop in St Paul. Its a really great place to stop on a ride. I did a version of Ben’s Charboneau North Valley ride and we stopped in ST Paul at this place. If anyone is planning a North Valley ride, it might be worth going out to St Paul.

I need more details on the ride please

I just signed up for the ride, but would like a little more detail on elevation gains & course overview. The description makes it sound like the first climb is 20 miles. OK ... how many thousands of feet over 20 miles ? I just did the Tour De Blast ( 7000 feet 82 miles ) any one know how the two rides might compare? The longest single continious climb on the Blast was about 9 miles I believe. Anyway any additional information on the ride would be helpful. I have only been riding & training for 3 months now and want to make sure I get myself properly prepared over the next 6 weeks.

Regards,

Pedal from Canby through scenic country roads on a PWTC traditional event. Again, this year the “Spring” has become “Pioneer” and the route has some changes that promise to make a wonderful ride. For more information or to volunteer to help at the event, contact Benn Schonman (503.775.8300) or Ron Ing (503.775.5005).

Roads Open

I checked out NF-57 to Timothy Lake on April 29th, and it is now almost all snow free. There was some snow on the sides of the road of Road 5890, and on Road 5620 (not part of the route, but a nice climb, free of traffic) at their highest points, but nothing on the roads at all. I did not ride the exact route for the Hoo-Ha, I should note.

On May 30th I rode up there again, and was able to make it all the way to High Rocks on NF-58, and quite a ways back down NF-58/Abbot Road, though I didn’t ride all the way down to Little Crater Lake. There was only patches of snow on the sides of the road, and bits of debris, but it was definitely open.

If possible, I’ll try to make it up there in another week or two and check out the other part of the route.

I’m still trying to figure out if the HooHa route descends Skyline NF-42, as I suspect…

This is one of the most scenic parts of the state to ride a bike, and I’d encourage those interested in some beautiful forest climbs, with very minimal traffic, to check them out.
