Get to rides a few minutes early!

The time listed for a ride on our schedule is the time the ride leaves. Be sure to give yourself a cushion of 15 minutes or so to sign-in, get your bike and yourself ready to go, and listen to the ride leader’s comments about the ride. If you come right at the last second, don’t be too surprised if the ride takes off without you. The ride leader’s watch could be a couple of minutes faster than yours.

I’m interested in partaking in some of the PWTC training/local rides (not the pay-for supported rides or course). Do you have to be a member to come along?

Rebuilding The PWTC West Side Rides

Please spread the word that the PWTC West Side Rides are on the rise. The PWTC West Side ride schedule includes Reach The Beach training rides, West Side Slow Spokes Social, the famous Welcome rides. There will be more difficult non-group rides offered as well.

The rides work best when they are member supported, however, recent West Side ride sign in sheets show approximately eighty percent of the riders are riding their first Wheelmen ride and are non-members. So, feel free to come out and join us and share your PWTC riding experience with these new riders.

Hike n Bike Metric Century

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the riders who participated in the 7th annual Hike N Bike event. The new metric century portion of the ride was a great success due partly to the help of Gary Brannan, Ann Morrow, Betty Suryan, Benn Schonman and yours truly Bruce Buffington. The entire NW Bicycle Safety team, other members of PWTC and were truly awesome!
I saw many Wheelmen members on the ride as well. Many of you don’t know that Peter Goodkin rode with Tim and I approximately one year ago just shortly after we mapped out the ride for our own NWBSC metric century. We shared the ride with THPF Hike N Bike in order to help raise funds for the Champions Too project to build a handicap accesseble playground for physically limited kids.
PWTC you are tops in my book!!

A few fun winter bicycle tours …

I’ve ridden with the club in the past (while as a partner of Burley Design Cooperative many years ago); and now run a bicycle touring biz. We have a couple of tours coming up that might be a fun way to beat the winter blues:

California Dreaming Holiday tour (Dec. 26-31)
Maui Triple Challenge Tour (Feb. 2010)
Amgen Tour of California (May 2010)

We do offer some nice club/group discounts for any of our tours, by the way.

Cheers,
Rob Templin
http://www.secondsummertours.com

Rob’s involvement in the cycling community spans more than three decades, ranging from the somewhat traditional (a partner in Burley Design Cooperative for 12 years) to the extreme (four-time Race Across America competitor). He holds a number of long-distance records with tandem partner Pete Penseyres, and has earned a few National Championship jerseys along the way. Rob makes his home in Eugene, Oregon, where the cold and dreary Northwest winters drove him to “discover” exotic locales where it is, indeed, summer in January and February. And that’s the genesis of Second Summer Tours.

Great ride this morning! Here’s the track out to the turnaround point. This is the route that was a little longer.

Saturday morning west side stp track

This is a little over half of our track from this morning. For some reason there were glitches picking up the track after 19.83 miles. Then, a phone call shut it down entirely.

http://www.trailguru.com/wiki/index.php/Track:50TK

The ride back was considerably faster, but alas, I’m missing that data!
